Sanitation:First Line of Defense

You usually don't have an abundance of rodents without enough food and shelter provided.

You can reduce the population by sanitation, just by eliminated these sources.

All rubbish piles and refuse need to be eliminated.

Landscaped areas need to be properly maintained with wood piles elevated off the ground.

All garbage containers and dumpsters should have a tight fitting cover.

Rodents can live on the spilled and surplus food from pet foods including bird feeders.

Stuf-fit-Copper Wire Mesh Wool to help with exclusion. STUF-FIT is a copper mesh (no rust) cloth that is stuffed into openings, packed tightly into cracks or holes for exclusion of pest such as rodents and birds.

All opening greater than 1/4 inch should be sealed to exclude mice, but it may be impossible to seal all openings.

All openings greater than 1/2 inch should be sealed for rat control

Likely access points for rodents are where utility lines come into the walls, as well as openings around air conditioners, drain pipes and vents.

Vents should be covered with a metal grillwork and rust resistant screening.

Check to see that shingles are tight.
