Who is affected by this EPA ruling?
The EPA Rodenticide Mitigation Decision is divided in consumer, agricultural and professional applicator markets. Each market has particular restrictions.

There are several advantages for using traps:
1.Safer than potential hazardous poison baits
2.Quick, immediate results
3.Easy disposal of dead rodents avoiding odor problems that will occur if rodenticides kill rodents in inaccessible areas.
Rats are often shy of new objects and placing unset traps in a new location for a week or two will increase the opportunities of catching. This will acclimate the rats to the traps. Once acclimated, set enough traps to kill the a large percentage of the population before the rodents become "trap shy." This is called mass trapping, trapping them at a higher rate than they can reproduce and become shy of the trap. There may be a need to have as many as 2-3 dozen rat traps set in place in a commercial establishment, in an infested trash room for example. By having these traps baited (without setting) with a Provoke mouse attractant , Provoke Rat Attractant or peanut butter unset, a large population would be use to feeding on around the traps. Afterwards, when the traps are then simultaneously set after a while of this "feeding", a large kill can be obtained.
The most common trapping mistake is using of too few traps. For only a couple of mice or rats, a dozen traps are not too many. For severe mouse infestations, traps should be placed close together in double sets in areas of high activity. The spring on a rat snap trap is very strong, (it could break a finger) so keep it out of reach of your pets and small children.
In trapping for mice, place snap traps about 10 feet apart since they don't travel very far. If the mice population is large, place the traps about 6 feet apart. Placing rat traps about 15-to 20 feet apart is good for rats. Good trap placement is accomplished after thorough inspections to determine the high-activity areas of rodents. It is very important to use plenty of traps. As many as six traps for only one or two mice is appropriate.
T Rex Snap Traps for rats are easy traps to set and very strong.
Named after the fierce dinosaur, Trapper T-Rex is Bell's most recent addition to its line of reliable traps. Professionals can now use a safer alternative to dangerous rat snap traps.Trapper T-Rex offers superior rat capture.
Mini T Rex Mouse traps are easier to set than the standard Victor Mice wooden trap.
1. Place them perpendicular to the wall - traps extending from the wall at a right angle with the trigger end nearly touching the wall.
2. Place them parallel to the wall - set them in pairs with the triggers situated to intercept rodents coming from either direction.
3.They can also be fastened with wire to overhead rafters, beams, tree limbs, and on top of the gutters along the roof line.
5.Care should be taken to set traps in areas where there is evidence of recent rodent activity such as fresh droppings, gnawings, rub marks, burrows, or urine stains.
TIPS:
1. Always make sure that you have the right sized trap for either mice or rat.
2. Insects may be taking the bait, without setting off the trigger.
To check for rodent activity around the trap, use a little dust (such as flour) around the area
Multiple Mice Catch Traps
(Hint-use vanilla extract, swabbed at the entrance to lure the first mouse inside)
Victor Tin Cat Repeating Mouse Trap is the only repeating mouse trap offered that has a patented escape proof mechanism. It is a slightly higer price than other multiple repeating mouse traps made of galvanized steel, but many find it is worth it.The Victor Tin Cat Repeating Mouse Trap can be used around food, water, children, and pets. Place the Victor tin cat mouse trap lengthwise against a wall with the entrance holes nearest the wall. No bait is required, but peanut butter or vanilla extract may increase catch.
It is made in the USA.
Place traps near baseboards, corners, along walls, or in spaces where rodents are likely to travel. Used either flat or folded into a triangle covered trap
Pet safe: Vegetable oil will dissolve the glue if needed. Should be used in places not readily accessible to pets and children to prevent tampering Best locations are along walls, runways, gnawed openings and near burrows where rodents are most likely to travel.
Live Animal Traps-
(For rats, flying squirrels, and chipmunks)
Live traps are another way for humane trapping without harming the rat, squirrel or chipmunk.
Offer Multiple Bait Choices
When many rodents are involved, different types of baits should be used. Individuals in a rodent population forage for different types of food. Therefore, it pays to divide the traps up and bait some percentage with meats such as bacon bits, some with peanut butter smudges, and some with nesting material like dental floss. Bait that matches what the rodents are currently feeding on should also be used (potato chips, e.g.).
Secure Baits
If some the rodents respond to piece-style baits, such as bits of cheese or meats, try tying it on the trigger so the rodent won't steal the bait before setting off the trigger. For baits like peanut butter, just use a small amount.
